About Archimandrite Demetrios Carellas

Fr. Demetrios Carellas was born in Savannah, Georgia in 1943.  After completing Bachelors and Masters degrees in Civil Engineering he was a Captain in the U.S. Air Force, serving as an aerospace facilities engineer.  Later he received a Master of Divinity from Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Theological School.

Papa Demetrios was ordained to the priesthood in 1974 and served as a parish priest in the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese for 20 years. After that he served as the chaplain at the Greek Orthodox Monastery of the Nativity of the Theotokos in Saxonburg, Pennsylvania for 21 years.  He was elevated to Archmandrite by Metropolitan Maximos of Pittsburgh in July 2010.

Papa Demetrios has been speaking in various cities around the United States and Canada for more than twenty years, and currently travels to speaking engagements about six to eight times per year.

Papa Demetrios has four children and sixteen grandchildren. Of his sixteen grandchildren, twelve of them have been or are being homeschooled.
